Weather Limits NACR '18 to Five Races
Sandwiched between two of the testiest weather fronts even for the east coast, the North American Championship Regatta was met with a deluge of rain and high winds. Day 1 saw one race finished before weather forced everyone off the water. Day 2 was called as small craft advisory was in effect, along with a number of the big boat clubs calling it a day before even hitting the docks. It rained the entire day, steady and hard. Almost a duplicate of the prior Saturday when the junior regatta was called for the day. The down time allowed members to have lunch together, as well as get some necessary parts and supplies from the APS headquarters, a stone's throw from the Severn Sailing Assn. where the nationals were hosted by DS Fleet 1. Day 3 proved to be more promising, and although the weather was a bit overcast, we were able to get in four races, which put everyone through their paces. The awards dinner that night was a great close to the event as DS Fleet 1 hosted a delicious dinner at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Thanks to everyone at Fleet 1, Severn Sailing Assn. and especially DSA President Robin Richards, for hosting. First class event, as always! |
