Sailing Put-In-Bay was fantastic. Thursday's practice race was in the bay below the Perry International Peace Monument. This was followed by three solid days of sail. Friday was hot, hot, hot. A Lake Erie storm drove us off the course shortening the fourth race of the day. Winds were blowing 46-48 mph as measured from Middle Bass Island. Most got in without issue, but a few were forced to tie off as best possible on the outside docks to wait it out. Roughly 60 minutes after what seemed like the Perfect Storm returned to hot and humid sunshine. Meals were part of the Inter-Lake Sailing Association's senior sail event with Toledo's own Tony Packo's Hungarian sausage sandwiches on Thursday, O'boys on Friday and a BBQ chicken and rib dinner Saturday. Racing Saturday was without the rain, but more chop. Nonetheless it was great sailing. We got 3 races in before the wind began to die. Sunday we had two races before heading in for packing up and heading home. The list of the 2016 perpetual trophies recipients is attached. Toby Deming received the Rebel Regional VP Award for growing the Portland fleet to 17 boats. Toby recently took over for Mark Schroeder in the Northwest Region. Many thanks to Mark for his contributions over the years!
Mike Clowes' Molds Half-Hull Models A belated thank you to Mike Clowes from DS Fleet 98 in Columbus,Ohio for fashioning half-full model trophies for the first through third finishers at the 2016 Championship Regatta. They were beautiful! Deb Mason-McCaffrey Recognized For many years, Deb has photographed the NACR and made her images available to DS members at no charge.
