Highest Speed on a DS1

Postby John Stevens » Sun Jun 08, 2008 6:18 pm

I had my GPS with me today. The wind was a little gusty at times but probably blowing around 10, no whitecaps.

I hit 6.8 mph on the gps in one of the gust. I was moving great all day and wondering what is your top speed you've reached to know what I can expect.

TIA,

John

The highest speed that my DS1 has reached that I am aware of is about 78 mph on interstate 95 in northern Maine.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself  Brad

Getting back to the water...

I've clocked (with a GPS) above 8 knots at times. There is a discussion of speeds at http://forum.daysailer.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1373 and a speed of 13 knots was reported.

Since the theoretical maximum hull speed of a DaySailer is about 5.4 knots, the higher speeds are caused by planing across the surface.

Thanks for the link Mike.

Wow, 13 is really moving, I'll be looking forward to that!
