Leeway with the CB partly raised

It is my understanding that fixed keel shoal draft boats (Compac 16, 19) will absorb some of the force of the wind in a blow by slipping sideways. Not great for pointing, but a desirable security factor when the winds get big. Do those same factors come into play when the CB is partially raised on a DS? I understand that adding weight to the windward side will reduce heel. But will raising the CB help stability? Or will the lowered resistance of the CB add to the heel?

decreased lateral resistance will reduce heeling making sailing more comfortable. It will also move the CLR (centre of lateral resistance back further reducing weather helm, balancing the boat or even inducing some lee helm. You will also induce some leeway (sideslip) so will need to point higher to maintain your heading.

Shoal draft keels are also more difficult to tack. Sometimes it requires you to bear off to gain some speed prior to tacking, so that you don't end up in irons.
