Why were they even at sea?

There will be many questions and many answers about the fate of the HMS Bounty during hurricane Sandy. Here is an insightful article from my favorite lady sailor on the subject:

They were at sea because the captain decided that was the best course of action. Period. End of story. All else is hindsight and speculation ...

Somebody on this forum has a sig line I love that goes something like:
"A ship in harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are for."
