I just read "Left for Dead" about the Fastnet race by Nick Hart.
"The Long Way" by Bernard Motessier and "Seaflower" ( Naval Sailing Adventure Novel ) by Julian Stockwin.
I really liked "Maiden Voyage" by Tania Aebi http://tinyurl.com/56at85
Another older story - "The Dove" by Robin Graham - http://tinyurl.com/56at85
I'm currently reading, "The Proving Ground" by G. Bruce Knecht. It recounts the ill-fated Hobart race of '98.
Two Years Before the Mast by Richard Henry Dana who left Harvard in the 1830's and signed onto a merchant brig as a seaman and sailed around the Horn to California when there were only a few sparse settlements.
THE STRANGE LAST VOYAGE OF DONALD CROWHURST by Tomalin and Hall. This book, along with ADRIFT,
Cruising With Seraffyn by the Pardeys
I also really liked explorer books like Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl and his later books about the Easter Islands
Has anyone mentioned Bernard Cornwell. He mostly writes historical
fiction about the 100 years war, but he's got about a half dozen modern
day swashbucklers that take place between the Caribbean and the English
Channel. They're real page turners.
I'd recommend "London Goes To Sea; Restoring and Sailing an Old Boat on a Budget" by Peter J. Baumgartner.
"Ten Hours Until Dawn" by Michael J. Tougias is a riveting read, if you want to "be here" during the Great Blizzard of '78
I'm sure this has been mentioned, but if you like reading about boat restoration, "Fix it and Sail" by Brian Gilbert is an interesting one to read. http://tinyurl.com/5fopdd
