I was reaching around inside the bilge access hatches to see if I could feel the centerboard pivot bolt, but I can't locate it--this is where I would get access, yes?

yes, you are in the right place

Reaching in from the inspection port only go in wrist deep forward. It is higher than you think. If you can't initially feel it, take a flashlight and cosmetic mirror to locate it. Once you find it once it is easy to find again. The bolt end and nut end each take a 3/4 inch socket if you are planning to remove or tighten the pivot bolt.
Another way of finding it is to put a small digital camera with flash down there and snap a few pics. It is very interesting to check your bilge this way and will give you a new insight to your boat.

Fantastic tips, thanks. I will take a look, and snap some photos, next weekend. Things seem Ok, but I just want to know for future reference.
