DSII Saling on Lake Erie

Postby rdmbamco » Sun Sep 27, 2009 4:27 pm

I just recieved a O Day Day Sailer and was wondering anybodies thoughts of sailing on Lake Erie. I have zero sailing experiance, but some boating experience. I will be taking sailing lessons next summer before I head out. Scary, but here we go.

Why not?

I wouldn't recommend going out on it first time out, but it's pretty much the same as sailing on the Atlantic coast. There are some places on the lake that are less difficult and threatening than others and you want to try those first.

Ideally, you can trailer to smaller lakes to get your sea legs and become familiar with sailing, and the DS in particular, before heading to the big water.

Take the lessons, do some research and you'll be fine.

You'll grow to love it very quickly.
