Mainsail sheet rigging

I'm finally getting around to setting up the rigging on my "new" DS2. Everything seems to fall into place except for the mainsheet. I've read the manual, but still can't seem to get it.

My DS2 is a '73, so there is not a double block (beckett, fiddler?) on the CB housing or boom. There is a single block on the CB, with a cleat for the sheet. Above that, on the boom is another single block, and another at the boom end. Finally, there are blocks on the stern coaming, one on the portside and one on starboard.

Can anyone tell me how to snake the mainsheet through the blocks to set up the sail control? Is more than one line required? And would it be better and easier to just add a double block to replace the single block on the CB, and forget about the blocks on the stern coaming?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lloyd-

It sounds as though your DSII is rigged the same as a DSI. The manual is on this site under the Technical Info heading and I have posted the link below. Basically, you start with one end of the mainsheet attached to the aft end of the boom; take the free end and thread through starboard, port blocks, up through block on aft end of boom, then through block in middle of boom, down to block on top of centerboard, then through cleat. Gives a 3:1 purchase and is very easy to rig. There is a picture of the original brochure that gives you a half decent view-hope it helps.

Lloyd, if you do decide to go with the cb mounted fiddle block and mid boom mainsheet, I have a used (original equipment) one for you. I went to a traveller system on mine last year and the car that came with the system had its own block and cleat. Here is a link to a picture of the original.

Found a better picture of the whole system together:

And a picture of the mainsheet block by itself, which is where the mainsheet ends up after all the ins and outs of going through the other blocks:

The sheet comes from the mid-boom block down into the block in the front; it then threads through the metal wire fairlead and then out through the cam cleats.

Thanks Carlos for the additional pix.

And thanks for the offer, Roger. I am not sure about the fiddle block since I now know how the original rigging goes. Are there advantages to rigging the mainsheet using the fiddle block?
