New Owner Question 1; Motor Mount

Just bought a 1981 DS II. The prior owner simply attached the 2 HP short shaft outboard over the transom with a couple small pieces of plywood to protect the transom itself. Seems sorta crude, but it works OK.

How do you attach your outboard? How does it work for you?

I, too, sometimes attach mine directly to the transom. Others here have installed permanent mounting plates on either side of the transom to protect it.
