Once the mast is raised, I pull it up around the tabernacle like a little muffler. It seems to soften the edges enough that I haven't had any fouled sheets since. The wrap I had was elastic knit, but I imagine a neoprene wrap would be even more effective.

This is a great idea! And, I'm glad to hear that it works. I have a heavy rubber piece that I Velcro around the tabernacle which does pretty well. However, I was just commenting to my daughter about where I might buy some neoprene to wrap around the mast. I was sort of envisioning a wetsuit sleeve with a zipper. So this idea will save me some trouble!

Re: mast hinge a couple of inches above the cuddy roof

When you remove the forward pin, and forestay, and allow the mast to hinge back into the mast crutch; it will be level to the boat only if the hinge is a couple of inches above the cuddy deck. That aft end of the cuddy roof has a bit of a lip on it as well, and you don't want your mast resting on this.

I understand the lip issue Roger. But if you use a rear mast crutch or pad the cabin top with a life vest, I don't understand why it would be an issue. Unless you drop the mast, is that the concern?

I saw the pictures of yours in your book this weekend Roger.

But I don't remember did you seal the mast stub in Roger?

The probability that a mast gets dropped is > 0%, unfortunately. Probably wise to limit damage should that eventuality happen.
