I have a plastic self-bailer in my DS II (replacement for the original metal one). The little metal rods that hold the plastic stopper ball in place broke off, and the ball is gone. It still bails when underway, but at mooring or when moving slowly with any weight aft, a lot of water comes up through the now-always-open bailer. Anyone tried to repair one of these? I figure I can find a plastic ball somewhere, and then fence it in with a couple of very thin SS screws installed from the outside. But I thought I would check to see if someone has a better idea.

I tried one of these on a similar situation on my buccaneer where I removed the old inoperable bailer leaving a hole in the boat. I never left it on a mooring but it seemed to work pretty well. Could also go with a straight plug or upgrade to an Anderson mini bailer (same site).

Thanks. DW always has good stuff. But I am goingoing to try my repair before springing for a replacement from DW or D&R.
