Here are some photos I took of the tripod I made. It works a treat. There's about $10 worth of purchased bolts and a couple of big box store 2 x 3's in the picture. Everything else was stuff I had lying around. The paint is lefotver house paint I bought to paint big swatches on the house before we picked the final color.

I've now made a deal with two buddies who bought Lido 14's recently, to do a 4 day cruise together in May. We might be joined by another friend who built his own "River of Grass" cruising dinghy. I have the fiberglass hoops for a cruising tent and am slowly putting together some plywood and spare 2 x 3's to expand the port seat towards the centerline, and make a sleeping platform. I bought a used Sevylor Colorado inflatable kayak, which as kayaks go, is a complete tub, but should work for paddling around an anchorage.

It's tempting to make a DIY spinnaker.

Thanks for posting the pictures of your tripod. It looks super sturdy. Mine isn't anywhere near that massive and has no cross member, thus requires the legs to be pinned to the chain plates. Your cross member looks like it acts like the brace for the mast foot, a job that the hinged sleeve will do in my setup. So it looks like you have good thinking behind your design. Nice.

Looks like you are on the way towards a full cruising setup. Before doing a full DYI spinnaker it might be useful to look for a used one. More than one model boat used the 15' size we have on the DS. Mine is a hand me down from an earlier incarnation of an I14, but it looks like it might be class legal.

However DYI is a reward in itself and doing a spinnaker might be more forgiving than any of the other sails. Looking forward to your next report.
