Mark Your Calendar for NACR 2022 in Beautiful Eugene OREGON!

After a two-year delay (and what hasn’t been delayed?) the Eugene Yacht Club and Oregon fleets 23 and 89 are looking forward to hosting the 2022 Day Sailer North American Championship Regatta, to be held July 26th through the 31st.

Yet, even though much has changed, much remains.

Registration is open at RegattaNetwork.com (Search under "day sailer") or visit the Eugene Yacht Club website. Both will get you to the right place!

The 2022 North American Championship Regatta

Eugene, Oregon, is an area full of things to do and see.  Not only will you be racing out of Eugene Yacht Club, one of the top small boat sailboat racing destinations on the West Coast, you will have easy access to many of the Pacific Northwest’s top visitor destinations.

EYC has hosted several Day Sailer NACR’s through the years, but has also hosted Thistle Nationals several times, Lido Nationals, Santana 20 Nationals, and several others.   It’s a great regatta experience—the socialization and facilities are ideal, and we have one of the top race committees in the country.

It’s a unique venue.  It’s set on a park-like setting with camping available and several water and electric hook-ups for RV’s and trailers.  Tent camping is on soft grass.  There are showers, boat hoists and ramps, kitchen facilities, barbeques, swimming, destination bird watching, and lots more.  Once on the grounds, a racer need not leave!

Small towns of Veneta and Elmira are just minutes away where there are several restaurants (venetafernridgechamber.com for eating and other accommodations).  Eugene, home of the University of Oregon Ducks, is only 30 minutes away.  (“U of O” features world class athletic and cultural events (see https://calendar.uoregon.edu.).  The Oregon coast and the Cascade Mountains are a little over an hour’s drive from EYC, with waterfalls, covered bridges and one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world (see Travel Lane County, (541)484-5307 or www.eugenecascadecoast.org).

EYC is in the Southern Willamette Valley, one of the top wine producing regions in the world, particularly famous for pinot noirs.  Several wineries offer tastings and are just a few miles from the club.  Regatta organizers are planning a wine-tasting from several nearby wineries at EYC.  And if craft beer is your thing, Eugene also hosts numerous craft breweries and pubs and distilleries.

Eugene Yacht Club has been following, and will continue to follow, State mandated COVID protocols.  Specific COVID requirements will not be available until the regatta, but you will be expected to follow these requirements.

One expectation is that you will have your boat’s measurements completed and a valid Measurement Certificate available for presentation at the regatta.  There will be limited weighing and measuring, as our fleet is small.

With the pricing changes that have occurred in the past two years, the final fee is not ready for this publication.  We’re anticipating we will be in-line with previous NACR’s.

Also, know that pets of any kind are not allowed on EYC grounds, and there is camping in the area.

Extend your stay by attending the Oregon Bach Festival (June 17th—July 5th), the famous Oregon Country Fair runs July 8th—10th (Google it for more information), Lane County Fair is July 20th—24th.  For more travel ideas contact Travel Lane County (email: eugenecascadescoast.org).

One thing that has changed is:

The Board’s approval of a “C” fleet at Nationals.  The “C” fleet is that group of members that want to be a part of the organization for all the right reasons but don’t get a big thrill out of racing.  The “C” fleet will sail at the same time as the “A” and “B” fleets but on their own course, so they don’t have to worry about getting in anyone’s way.  It’s a big lake, there is plenty of room for all of us!  More details will follow in the Winter Quarterly.  Anyone with questions about the “C” fleet should contact Toby Deming at tobyami@q.com
